Our volunteers will live and work alongside local staff at two schools where challenging local social and environmental conditions have damaged the mental and social development of the children. We will devise a music therapy programme to address the children’s needs and train (and equip) local staff to run it themselves. The programme will use simple musical activities to help children with disabilities and emotional problems develop social and play skills, self-confidence and self-esteem. For those who find verbal communication difficult, it offers a personal and sensitive means of expressing emotion and relating to others – sometimes for the first time. Our long-term support after the training ends will ensure the project's legacy is a lasting one.
