Listen, Learn & Laugh
World Literacy Foundation

Utilize cheap and accessible technology to eradicate illiteracy in rural communities.

The program is innovative and transformative in that it uses mobile phone technology to engage not just with the child, but with the wider family members, as they listen to a radio show on speaker phone via any mobile phone. Stories At Home will engage family members around the table to be entertained, laugh, and learn: all aimed at improving childhood literacy. Sustainability is built into the program through our partnership with telecommunications company Millicom/Tigo and, through them, local retailers. The program has the potential to scale up to improve children’s reading scores across the country, particularly in rural and regional areas, as it harnesses a widely available technology for innovative uses. The program will then be replicated for the majority Latin America and Africa
